In news that screams "rape culture," a 46-year-old Saudi businessman was cleared of rape charges after a British court accepted his defense that he "might" have tripped and accidentally penetrated the teenage girl who was asleep on his couch.
Property developer Ehsan Abdulaziz claimed that he took two teenagers home after a night of drinking. He served them both up more alcohol and then had sex with the teenager's friend while the victim slept on the couch. After he was finished with her friend, Abdulaziz said that he woke up the sleeping girl who immediately began to try to seduce him.
According to Abdulaziz, his penis must have been sticking out of his underwear slightly when the girl put his hand between her legs and grabbed his head to kiss him. (She's an octopus, arms everywhere!) He argued that he lost his balance and his penis fell into her, simultaneously getting semen from his hands inside her vagina and possibly accidentally penetrating her at the same time. I guess he's still not entirely sure, but DNA evidence that found his semen in her vagina was pretty sure.
Setting aside the laws of physics and common sense, the jury cleared him in under 30 minutes of deliberation. Unfortunately, since the young victim had been drinking and her friend had sex with Abdulaziz, I can easily imagine how she was made out to be at fault while Abdulaziz was portrayed as the innocent victim of her "seduction" attempts.
To that girl, please know that I believe you. I'm sorry we live in a society that puts you on trial instead of your rapist and who believes his word instead of yours. And to everyone who asks why more women don't report their rapes — now do you understand? When "falling into a vagina" is a legitimate rape defense, there's no way to win as a rape victim.
